Cornerstone update #3

It's been quite a traumatic morning so far. So here's a post to get things off my mind!

Here is a picture of the back bracings. The back has been completed. Nice!


Here is a picture of the two tops being glued. The vacuum bag is supposed to apply an even pressure throughout the top during this process. I think.


The top being prepared for bracing. The top is a double top, a technique used mainly in the construction of classical guitars. Two sold pieces of wood thinned and joined together to "get the best of both worlds". Underneath this lighter layer of wood, parts of it were drilled to created hollow spaces. From the reviews so far, this significantly increases the volume and the quality of the tone.

Since quite a number of people have been asking me to update. Here is an update. Was going to sleep, but then I received the following pictures in the mail. Woke up instantly and decided to update!

Cornerstone update #1!

Finally finding a short breather to update the blog, this one is on my new guitar and is an update a long time in the making. Long story, you can check the forums if you are really interested!

Englemann spruce top being glued. This will be used in a top construction technique known as the double top. It will make the top vibrate more freely, giving better sound.


The rosette being inlaid to the sinker redwood top. The Englemann piece will be on the reverse side of this top.

It has begun!

As most of the Flowerpots will know, I ordered a guitar earlier this year. That was towards the end of practicum. Now 3 months later, the build has finally begun. Will be tracking the build on this blog as well as guitar4christ and acousticguitarforum. So enjoy seeing this guitar come together!

Many of my friends first initial investment after graduating is a car. Well, mine is this guitar, I'm sure the returns would be much higher!

Back and sides: Camatillo Rosewood
Top: Sinker Redwood and Englemann Spruce double top construction
Rosette: Bloodwood and abalone

Well, the guitar should take about a year to complete. It will be a long year indeed!

Here are two more designs, kind of an in between, but basically still an outline of PMC's logo.

This is one of the best and classic unplugged videos and one of the early ones too.

my Taylor is back!!

Yeah... my guitar is back from the Sinamex guitar hospital. It's feels brand new now! The works on it:
- changed the 1st to 4th frets
- re-crowned the whole fret-board
- set-up to 0.12 guage strings
Besides that they also buffed the guitar. So it's got a nice sheen on it now. Wasn't free, but it was reasonable. Now I will need to replace the saddle, nut and pins to give it extra brightness! :)

Anyway...

I just realised that my posting is NOT a secret. It is available online and it is not password protected. So, happy hunting...

Posting is out!

After travelling from east to west for the past half a year, I'm really happy that I don't have to travel that kind of distance for practicum! It's a super big morale booster.

Will keep my school posting a secret for now. Will reveal it to YMPACT soon enough. Will drop hints here and there, so read in between the lines.

Anyway, it will only be for 10 weeks, from late February to early May. Moreover, School posting unit has already made it clear that the honours students will most likely be posted to JCs. Oh well... time will tell...

On another note...

I'm missing my Taylor. It's undergoing some internal surgery at the Sinamex Guitar Hospital. It's first major servicing in 3.5 years. Here's a list of operations that will be taking place:
- Replacement of first 4 frets
- Re-crowning the whole fret-board
- Set-up to light guage strings
It will cost quite a bit, but it should give my guitar a much better feel.
