Cornerstone Update #3

Realise that I didn't post a lot of the pictures that I've been posting on Guitar4Christ or AGF. So here are some!

Cute!

Looks like my form class finally discovered my real nickname. I actually prefer it to teddy bear; which was my nick before mashimaro. The latter somehow sticks better.

Here's Wenya's masterpiece:

Cute! HAHA!

Chicken Nuggets, popcorn chicken...

This is mainly for my form class.

This is a recipe for chicken nuggets. But if you cut the chicken down to a smaller size, it will become popcorn chicken. The good thing about it is that it does not involve any frying.

Ingredients:
- Chicken fillets
- Biscuits / crackers / bread crumbs
- Plain Yoghurt
- Pepper, salt, chilli and coriander power
DSC00027

Step 1:
- Cut the chicken into small bits
- That's just 4 pieces of the chicken fillets
DSC00028

Step 2
- Prepare the marinate
- Mix the yoghurt, salt, pepper, spices together
DSC00029

Step 4:
- Crush the biscuits
- Mix the chicken pieces into the marinate
- Prepare the tray
DSC00030

Step 5:
- Coat the chicken pieces with the crumbs
DSC00031

Step 6:
- Bake on very high heat for 20 minutes
DSC00032

This is the end result. That's good for 3 or 4 servings. One tray of chicken should make a solid 12 servings at the least. It is far cheaper than buying pre-cooked stuff.

Above All

The anonymous spammer thinks I don't update often enough. Well, will try do so a little more now, since I am a little bit more time now.

Anyway, this is one of the best videos I've seen on Youtube. I'm still amazed each time I see it.

The calm before the storm

It the nice calm before the storm, a storm of marking that is! It is interesting to sit on this side of the examination after being on the other for a good portion of my life. I have to say, teachers get stressed during this period just as much as students. Some signs of stress:

1) Dreamt that the neck of my Taylor broke and the bridge was torn off (more like a nightmare)
2) Dreamt that my Cornerstone's top broke in mid-construction :(
3) Dreamt that I managed to sell my Ibanez and Maestro, only to wake up to find that haven't been sold yet :(
4) Dreamt of "someone". Honestly, it was a little disturbing... cos rottan class...
5) Didn't dream on some nights... those were pleasant.

Signs of stress in the common room... convo between Mr A and Mr E:

Mr E: Mr A, you reminded to remind you early this morning about something.

Me A: Please remind me about what I reminded you to remind me this morning. (Sounds like Jack Sparrow isn't it?)

Mr E: I forgot.

Anyway, I thought the show "Fan Chan" (My girl) was pretty good, even though it was in Thai. I was smiling through quite a number of parts of the movie, really sweet. Honestly, the whole story reminded me of something (or someone rather) in my past. Like what the protagonist in the story said at the end, that he will always remember the girl in a certain way, I don't think I will forget those pink plastic specs (hahahaha...). I wonder where she is now.

Cornerstone update #3

It's been quite a traumatic morning so far. So here's a post to get things off my mind!

Here is a picture of the back bracings. The back has been completed. Nice!
Cornerstone 016

Here is a picture of the two tops being glued. The vacuum bag is supposed to apply an even pressure throughout the top during this process. I think.
Cornerstone 017

The top being prepared for bracing. The top is a double top, a technique used mainly in the construction of classical guitars. Two sold pieces of wood thinned and joined together to "get the best of both worlds". Underneath this lighter layer of wood, parts of it were drilled to created hollow spaces. From the reviews so far, this significantly increases the volume and the quality of the tone.

How time flies...

Met an old secondary school classmate earlier in the day. It just seems like yesterday when we were all in the same class teasing and interogating each other on our crushes. Seemed quite the norm to do that back then, hasn't really changed much.

Well, he's now married with a 14 month old son. I can't quite imagine that.

Happy Teachers' Day 2007

I usually dedicate a post every Teachers' Day. This year is really different, as I am actually comemorating this day as a teacher. Last year, I was still in NIE, and it wasn't exactly a fantastic one due to salary adjustment annoucement. I wasn't affected, but plenty of my collegues were. Anyway, that was last year.

Well, this year, has a been a real learning year for me. Even teachers have teachers and this post is dedicated to my coorperating teachers at Temasek Secondary School, Mrs Lim Swu Yun, Mrs Rebecca Loke and Mr Toh Wee Kwang who really helped me a lot in the first half of this year.

Cornerstone update #1!

Finally finding a short breather to update the blog, this one is on my new guitar and is an update a long time in the making. Long story, you can check the forums if you are really interested!

Englemann spruce top being glued. This will be used in a top construction technique known as the double top. It will make the top vibrate more freely, giving better sound.

Back online...

Spent the last few days formatting my laptop, now it's back in a decent working condition with a few new modifications. Was acting strange and could not shut down properly, due to having about 60 different thumbdrives inserted into it within a two week period in July. Hopefully I've added another year of life into it. My other 5 year old laptop is still in working order, so I'm sure this one can last a little longer. Will format it again in a year's time.

It sure feels like school is supposed to reopen tomorrow, but in reality its Friday! So two more days of break... or rather marking.

Here's a nice shot of the whole school.
NDP at AHS

More good food!

This is the Japanese restaurant at East Coast Park. Interestingly, after living in the east for so many years (basically my whole life), I've only stepped into this place twice. The first time to meet up with my primary school mates, but I didn't eat anything then. The second time was 2 days ago, and I can foresee that that won't be the last time.

Don't be fooled by the size of the bowl though. The amount of food isn't any more than other restaurants. It's just an optical illusion, but a damn good one.

Some pictures...

Here's a view from the Equinox! 70th floor of the Swissotel, formerly known as Compass Rose. I never thought I'd be able to ever set foot into that place. Was playing at a friend's wedding. No angpow... the but food more than made up for it! Too bad I don't have a shot of the food! :(

Anyway, nice place to be watching this year's NDP, but, unexpectedly, not a very nice place to be watching the F1 race next year. While you can see the track, you can only see a small part of it! Have to run from room to room to catch the whole thing!

DSC00013

Here is a shot of the Indoor Stadium before Festival of Praise started. Wasn't that crowded, in fact I only reached the Indoor Stadium at 7.30pm. This was only on Friday night of course. Crowd was noticeably older, and I'm getting a little old to go everyday! Gone are the days when I could queue from 2.30pm to 7.30pm on all three days of FoP.

It has begun!

As most of the Flowerpots will know, I ordered a guitar earlier this year. That was towards the end of practicum. Now 3 months later, the build has finally begun. Will be tracking the build on this blog as well as guitar4christ and acousticguitarforum. So enjoy seeing this guitar come together!

Many of my friends first initial investment after graduating is a car. Well, mine is this guitar, I'm sure the returns would be much higher!

The specs:
Luthier: Peter Marreiros of Cornerstone Guitars
Shape: Auditorium (OM - Orchestra Model)
Back and sides: Camatillo Rosewood
Top: Sinker Redwood and Englemann Spruce double top construction
Rosette: Bloodwood and abalone
Bindings: Bloodwood
Purflings: Abalone
Inlay: 12th fret "Alpha-Omega" inlay
Soundport: Dove shaped soundport

Here is a shot of the rosette:

Here is a shot of the very rare sinker redwood top:

Well, the guitar should take about a year to complete. It will be a long year indeed!

tag-board replies

This is only the second time ever that I am replying tag-board entries via a full length post. I will only reply personal matters, class matters will be dealt with in class!

First of all... hi to all, thanks for visiting. I cannot change the colour of this blog as some of my reguar readers will know, there are actually a lot of hidden messages that are the same colour as the background. They will appear very prominently if I change the colour. Happy hunting if you want to read those hidden messages.

Manjing: So sorry, I don't link anyone to my blog anymore, with the exception of my church Cell Group members. Yes, I do have an expensive guitar. I literally starved to get it. Maybe I should get some more often!

Maggie: Yup, it is photoshop. I learnt how to use it in NS.

To the 1A students: Asked and answered in class.

To everyone else: Thanks for visting! Do give me some time to warm up and yes, I do enjoy teaching all of you!

So it begins...

Been waiting for tomorrow for quite a while now. Don't feel as much apprehension as one year ago when I reported to Temasek. Last year, I really did not know what to expect. This year is different, I'm not reporting entirely fresh, but no doubt inexperienced. Well, let the Lord show His way. The journey really begins.

Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honour him. - John 12 :24-26

Road trip... sort of...

Some random pictures...

This has to be the longest street sign in Singapore.

Road signs

It has not one but TWO street names on it! And I live on one of them! It's a 5 minute walk from Temasek Secondary School, so to my former students, have fun trying to find where I live. Tanah Merah Kechil Road SOUTH, used to be called Tanah Merah Kechil Road, it was that way when I moved in 10 years ago. Interestingly, or ironically, Tanah Merah Kechil Road still exists; its none other than the slope leading up to Anglican High.

Talking about the "dreaded" slope, here's a picture of my new bicycle which I will use to get to school.

Bike 001

Been taking it through it's paces the last few days. I bought in on Monday, and on Monday night I decided to cycle to AHS. The slope ISN'T THAT BAD AT ALL!!! But it will induce about 30 seconds of torture, not funny when you are lugging along a 5kg crumpler and wearing semi-formal attire. Will be getting off the bike and pushing it up the slope. Surprisingly, my legs weren't aching when I woke up.

On Tuesday, I cycled around the estate and once again my legs weren't aching when I woke up. But today I took a ride to East Coast Park on a long 15km ride and now my legs are aching and my butt really hurts (thanks to the seat and not anything else, don't get the wrong idea!). Good exercise, will attempt to wake up early to do something similar.

East Coast Park really looks different. The last time I went up and down the length of the Park was about one and a half years ago, and it was captured in this post. Here's a shot of the cable ski lagoon versus a similar shot that I took 1.5 years ago. Shows how much hand-phone cameras have progressed as well!

Ignition!

The last few days of camp were great! Actually they were fantastic! A lot more uplifting than the NIE courses and lectures I had to attend during the camp! But anyway... (to quote Nat) if I were younger I would devote a whole post to the camp. But no... this is not a camp post... it is instead about the future! Truly... today was Ignition... because I reported to Anglican High for duty.

Well, finally got to see how to school looks like (on the inside anyway), the hill isn't THAT bad... can definitely walk up the slope much less cycle up the slope. Have yet to receive my timetable yet... all I know is that I will most likely be teaching lower secondary Mathematics AND English. So, Lydia, Gloria and Kelyn and my former students at TMS... please don't ask me who or what class I am teaching... I really don't know!!!!! All I know is that it will be *INTENSE* ...

A week ago, met up with some of my NIECF friends and I knew that there was no respite for me all the way till September at least. Since January, I've been busy, NIE course, followed by practicum, followed by induction programme and this week is burnt. So no holidays for me. My prayer last week was for Spiritual Rest during the camp. I knew I won't be able to sleep much, but yes, I have found some Spiritual rest and feel ignited to last the next few months!

Well... today is certainly the beginning, the ignition of a (hopefully) long career. My prayer is still the same as before I entered NIE and one that is more relevant especially after the camp.

So it begins...

Just received my NIE second semester's results, not that it really matters much. Didn't do super well, but did fairly decent. Graduated with credit, which is pretty good, and a credit for practicum, which is more than decent! So a BIG THANK YOU to my former students and CTs at TMS, I enjoyed my experience there very much!

in a state of shock... (edit)

Staff placement unit dropped a surprised on me today. Received my school posting today, one full month early! I am a bit shocked (in a good way of course) at my posting. I will release my posting after practicum, so that my students will know where I will be going.

But, if you guys at YMPACT want to guess... there are YMPACTers at this school... 3 girls... that I know of, but there may be more! Happy guessing! And this time... as far as I know... my posting isn't avaliable online!

EDIT: OKay... my students have been very enthusiastic! Was going to post my school posting on Monday night, but looks like they've already revealed it!

So yes, I have been posted to Anglican High School, my effective date of posting will be 18 June onwards. That's immediately after church camp!

some people...

... have too much time on their hands!

Anyway, was watching Mythbusters yesterday, and it was by far the best episode I've ever watched! It was the one on mentos and diet coke. Not just was it entertaining to watch, there was enough science in the episode to make a very good chemistry lesson. Too bad, I'm not teaching chemistry, but Kelvin, if you can get our hands on the video, you should show it!

One my favourite parts of the show was when they used to methane gas to churn some soapy water. So what happened was that a vertical tower of foam rose from the container of water (due to methane being lighter than air) and because it was filled with methane gas, they could SET IT ALIGHT! Extremely fun to watch!

Anyway, back to diet coke geysers, here are the guys who have too much free time, they are not the mythbusters though...

Point of Difference

Not posted a post like this for a long long time. But this is a really opportune time.

Practicum has essentially come to an end for me. Had my final teaching lesson for practicum today (didn't really teach though), and even though I still have 2 more weeks at Temasek Secondary School, I'm left with just some marking and some invigilation. The past 9 weeks have been really great. I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much if I had been posted back to any of my alma matars.

Practicum began with an interesting message, was at the TRACkers graduation ceremony and my cousin (who was the speaker) preached from John and of all verses, John 12:24-26.

"Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If anybody serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there will My servant be also. If anyone serves Me, the Father will honour him."

These words have come to me at so many points in the past 2 years. The "Falling, Spinning" VCF musical, the events that happened during that musical, the joy and the deep pain that came after that. These verses has always comforted me, for more of the backstory, you can read it here.

It was the most fitting of ways to be begin practicum. A reminder to be fallen, a fallen seed that bears fruit. Nine weeks later, I cannot say that I have done well. It has been a powerful learning journey, and I think I have learnt more than my students.

My final posting will be in about 5 to 6 weeks time. I do not know where I will be going; but before coming into this profession God said that the path would be made straight for me, and it has been very straight so far. So I will be praying that I will remember why I do this and that I will not lose that call to be the difference.

This song doesn't exactly have very good lyrics, but there it has a certain annointing on it. A call to be the point of difference in this world.

Point of Difference
The tide is turning, this is redemption's hour
In the midst of a world lost for love
You are all we have now
The lost returning, salvation is all around
In the midst of a world broken down
You are all we have now

You are God and this hope is ours

So Father open the skies
Flood the earth with Your light
This is love that breaks a world indifferent
As we lift up our eyes
Fill our hearts with Your fire
In a world the same
We'll be the difference

Or hearts are burning a fire that won't burn out
In the midst of a world that's grown cold
You are all we have now
The earth resounding, the anthem of Your reknown
As we lift up our eyes and look to Your glory

Call us out, let the world see You are God
And this hope is ours
Call us out let the world see You are God
As we sing

Open the skies
Flood the earth with Your light
This is love that breaks a world indifferent
As we lift up our eyes
Fill our hearts with Your fire
In a world the same
We'll be the difference

Our eyes are broken
Every chain now broken
We're in this world
But we are different

Let Your love become us
As we live to make You famous
We're in this world
But we are different

(C) Words and music by Joel Houston

Here is an edited version of the song; it will probably be pulled from youtube soon.

facelift...

Giving my blog a long needed facelift... so everything is in the midst of renovation right now. Will be releasing my blog address to my students (if they haven't yet found it) towards the end of practicum, so time to do some sprucing up.

Removed all the links to the YMPACT and VCF guys, save for the Flowerpots of course! If you really want the links, they can still be found in the coding. Got tired of updating them, besides, Clayton does a fantastic job of keeping his links updated!

Added a lot of GAS inducing links as well. Most, save for the first link, are guitars that are probably beyond me. But well, who knows! More gear stuff will be added soon... I hope!

Will be updating the links section as well. Will be incorporating links to mathematics and english resources.

Homework I love you????

Homework I love you, I think you are great
It's wonderful fun when you keep me up late
I think you're the best when I'm totally stressed
Preparing and cramming all night for a test

Homework I love you, what more can I say?
I love to do hundreds of problems each day
You boggle my mind and you make me go blind
But still I'm estatic that you were assigned

Homework I love you, I tell you it's true
There's nothing more fun or exciting to do
You're never a chore, for it's you I adore
I wish that our teacher would hand you out more

Homework I love you, you thrill me inside
I'm filled with emotions, I'm fit to be tied
I cannot explain when you frazzle my brain
Of course that's because I'm completely insane.

Honestly, it isn't fun giving homework.

Some people say, "I am more afraid of 100 sheep led by a lion rather than a 100 lions led by a sheep"

I beg to differ man... I think if a sheep can lead 100 lions without being eaten alive it must be some kind of special sheep!

Anyway, this post is probably not going to make sense to most of you...

Home alone again...

I'm home alone. Parents have gone overseas. So now I have 2 cars at home, but I have need to drive to school. Oh well...

Lots of laundry to do the next few days, especially at the rate I'm using up my shirts.

Here we go again!

Well, the new school term has begun and practicum has really begun in earnest for me. Previously, it has been pretty slack. I am still trying to recover from whatever bug I contracted during Chinese New Year, not funny at all.

This term is a short one, only about 6 weeks of instruction followed by exams. Furthermore there are things like Good Friday and Easter! As well as school events that are going to knock some days of my calendar. Well, it is going to be intense.

9496 days

Well, I turn 26 today; the 8th of March! Suposed to be teaching my very first mathematics class today, would have been a really nice birthday present, but I've lost my voice! Not due to shouting at students but from eating too many Chinese New Year goodies.

But anyway, it is my birthday! But unlike my previous birthday posts in 2005 and 2006, I'm not going to complain about my age. Instead, I'm going to say that I feel youthful today! What that means, well it is up to your intepretation. But yes, I don't have that same depressing "I'm old" feeling today, instead I feel quite rejuvenated albeit I'm feeling quite sick.

Anyway... it is my brother's birthday as well! So happy birthday Marvin!

Yes, we DO have the same birthday, seems like no one believes, we are twins... just two years apart.

Saturday, March 03, 2007

It's already March...

It's already March... I'm turning 26 next week. Makes you wonder what a lot about time.

Had a bizzare dream the other night, dreamt that 2 good friends of mine gave me invitations to their wedding. One I was quite happy (and relieved) to receive, the other... well... let's just say I didn't take the news nicely and I ended waking up from my sleep. What was really weird were some of the dates that I saw on the wedding invitations, it was so clear that I can actually remember them. Only one date had meaning to me though. Well... that's really bizzare.

Next week I finally start proper teaching, time to get a move on in life. This week was a good week, I'm still coughing really badly, but I'm sure that God will heal me just in time for Monday's early morning lesson.

interesting question...

Stef posed the following question to me:

In an exceptionally long corridor of a building, there are one thousand windows along one wall. Coincidentally, there are exactly one thousand window cleaners in the building. They've been ordered such that the first cleaner is to open the blinds on every window. Then, the second cleaner is to close the blinds on every second window. Then the third cleaner is told to go to every third window, and close the blinds if they are open, and open the blinds if they are closed. The fourth cleaner does this for every fourth window, and so on.

After all 1000 cleaners complete the process, how many blinds are open?

Interesting question! Thanks Stef. I believe the answer is 31. How I got it... well... I'm still trying to refine my answer.

I can't seem to find the solution (or even the question on the net for that matter) so I can't really verify. Anyway... those of you who like I challenge... have fun. It's not that difficult to solve... once you have the right approach.

Experential Learning...

When you plan activities out in the open, always have a wet weather contingency!

I'm sure the past 3 TOFU Teams will know exactly what I mean!

It's good to be "back"

I thought my "dreaming of the seashore on the endless world" post was as good as telling people my school posting. I guess it would have been a little more obvious to the TK people that I wasn't posted back to TK. But apprently people were still guessing even up to today... oh well... means I don't give good clues.

So yes... I have been posted back to Temasek Secondary School for 10 weeks of practicum. Walking around the school compound today... it felt like I was just there yesterday. In reality over 8 months had passed. It really felt good to be back.

But I still dream of the seashore on the endless world...

!?!?!??!?!!?!?!?!?!!??

Can't think of a title for this one... wanted to post a video of Doyle Dykes demonstrating the Taylor T5 then I came across this one... some people are just not human!

taking a step into the past...

Was looking through my archive the other day. It's been quite a journey. I started this blog almost three years ago and I guess I have grown a lot since then. The journey has been quite painful most of the time, but somehow through it all I can really see the grace of God on me.

Looking back and reading everything... I can now laugh at them. Those posts that were stupid, I can laugh at them. Those posts that were written when I felt defeated, I can laugh at the devil and tell him that he no longer binds me.

Well, here a rundown of some of my favourite posts as well as some posts that really mean a lot to me, those that have shaped me quite a bit.

This was my first mathematics post. It was truly inspired from above. Many people tell me they have problems seeing God in maths... well... they haven't spoken to me yet then.

The first journal post
101005
This is an honourable mention post. It came just before I entered a time of deep pain and if it had not, I would have lost my anchor in Christ. It also started a long process of reading the Bible everyday, and I can honestly say that I've read the Bible, at least one verse per day, everyday since that post. Even when I was in camp and when I was in USA. If you ask me if it was easy, I will say without hesitation that it was one of the most difficult things that I've done and am doing in my life; to read the Bible, at least one verse per day, everyday. The last such posts was recorded not too long ago and well... now I keep a hardcopy journal.

The mushy poem post
In His Time
Okay... I really wrote that poem; I was a pretty good literature student in lower sec. It was written when I was in a pretty bad emotional state, and the words there calmed me down quite a fair bit. Anyway, that is not the most mushy poem that I've written, the most emo and mushy one I've written is 25 verses long and was never and will never be published in it's entirety on this blog.

My most passionate post
Why jump?
This was my response to the "jumping" issue; it was an echo of my own journey when I was a younger musician. I would say that the story behind this post really made me very proud of One Voice for the maturity they showed in handling the whole issue. The tagboard posts that started it all can be found here:Jump?

The second most-emo post
Stop Dreaming
Well... this post... was a wake up call. Called me back to reality in some way.

The most-emo post by a long shot
WHY.
Well... it's the most emo post for very obvious reasons. It is actually a continuation of the above post. I would say that it was really one of the lowest points in my life; but through the whole experience God really displayed His grace and mercy towards me. I still read it with sadness, but at least now I can see it in a very different light and feel the joy that comes in the morning.

Christianity started out in Philistine as a fellowship; it moved to Greece and became a philosophy; it moved to Italy and became an institution; it moved to Europe and became a culture; it came to America and became an enterprise. - Sam Pascoe

Practicum beckons

Seems to be the standard nick on MSN for all my NIE friends. Well, spent my last day at NIE, before practicum at least, yesterday. Have 2 more assignments due, but friends have kindly agreed to help me hand in.

Practicum begins next Monday, and I am excited to go to school. After 8 months of cramming in all the learning theories and teaching techniques, nothing beats a live experience.

The book of Acts says that young men will see visions and old men will dream dreams. Well, I've been dreaming dreams lately (so does that make me old???). Anyway, dreamt of my practicum school 3 times in the past week! When you think about it, it no longer becomes a coincidence or a stress thing, it is really something from above.

1 dream was pretty nice. But the other 2 were more like warnings of things to come. Well, I will have to be extra vigilant next week and for the next 10 weeks.

I'm also put in a pretty horrible situation. According to NIE instructions, I spend the first week observing and the next 9 weeks teaching. This excludes the March holidays which begins after my birthday; or after my first week of teaching. I'm stuck in the position of "whether I should give homework during the holidays". If I had my way, I won't give... but if that happens, well I can imagine that my CT won't be pleased. But if I do give... then I become public enemy number 1 with my students just after one week of teaching them. The really big problem is that every student teacher in NIE is in the same predicament. Well, I guss this is where my games and simulations module will definately come in handy for finding alternative ways of giving "homwork".

old trick,new skin...

This is quite interesting. Well, it works but too mechanical if done without understanding. Anyone care to figure out why it works?

dreaming of the seashore on the endless world...

Well, I wish I could sing some of those words on the morning of 26 Feb when practicum starts. But no, I won't. The Lord the decided to place me someplace else, but yet has very graciously answered a prayer of mine.

And so yes, due to someone's slip of tongue, my posting has been revealed. But then as I stated in the post below, it never wasn't a secret anyway.

So yes, come 26 Feb, I won't have to travel to NIE in the west anymore, but I can take a nice slow walk to school just like I did for4 weeks last year!

my Taylor is back!!

Yeah... my guitar is back from the Sinamex guitar hospital. It's feels brand new now! The works on it:
- changed the 1st to 4th frets
- re-crowned the whole fret-board
- set-up to 0.12 guage strings
Besides that they also buffed the guitar. So it's got a nice sheen on it now. Wasn't free, but it was reasonable. Now I will need to replace the saddle, nut and pins to give it extra brightness! :)

Anyway...

I just realised that my posting is NOT a secret. It is available online and it is not password protected. So, happy hunting...

ironic...

Had a family function after the amzing race on Sunday, so I couldn't join the rest of YMPACT for dinner. So I didn't have to pay $6... or so I thought... was fined $6 for exceeding my parking time when I was stationed at Tampines. Ironic :(

Anyway, on another note... my family dinner made up for all that. It was my granduncle and cousin's birthday but CNY came a little early this year. Just take a look at this feast:

Posting is out!

After travelling from east to west for the past half a year, I'm really happy that I don't have to travel that kind of distance for practicum! It's a super big morale booster.

Will keep my school posting a secret for now. Will reveal it to YMPACT soon enough. Will drop hints here and there, so read in between the lines.

Anyway, it will only be for 10 weeks, from late February to early May. Moreover, School posting unit has already made it clear that the honours students will most likely be posted to JCs. Oh well... time will tell...

On another note...

I'm missing my Taylor. It's undergoing some internal surgery at the Sinamex Guitar Hospital. It's first major servicing in 3.5 years. Here's a list of operations that will be taking place:
- Replacement of first 4 frets
- Re-crowning the whole fret-board
- Set-up to light guage strings
It will cost quite a bit, but it should give my guitar a much better feel.

Assignement count #1

Since my posting has been delayed... I think I will put up a list of assignments that I have due to frighten myself:

English - Reflection piece (40%) DONE!
Social Context - Essay 2 (30%) DONE!
Mathematics - Lesson plan for microteaching (15%) - Due 14 Feb
Mathematics - Microteaching - Presenting on 16 Feb
Mathematics - Assesment construction portfolio (40%) - Due 16 feb
English - Critical Review (60%) - Due 23 Feb
Games and Simulations - COTS review and adaptation (40%) - Due 18 March

The last one is due in the middle of practicum... my group is hoping to get it done by 26 Feb. Shouldn't be a problem.

a few more hours to go...NOT...

Practicum posting will be out in a matter of hours... very exciting. Not been able to sleep very well the last few days thanks to the thought of it all.

EDIT: posting has been delayed one day... anti-climatic

school posting... countdown

I think there is some morbid facination among the youth with regards to which school I will be posted. Well, I will know on Friday. 5 days left to go!

But well... it will only be for 10 weeks excluding the March break.

last post...

well... as last post for the journal entries at least... will no longer post my personal journal online. Just some simple updates from day to day from now on.

verses read: Romans 8

Things have certainly been looking up since the last time I wrote an entry. There was Fusion, which definitely turned out better than I expected. How ever some of the things which I expected happened indeed. Not a bad thing, good learning points for everyone, including myself. Am actually looking to see what will be done next year.

Had two rounds of teaching at Outram Secondary, given one of the lessons I was simply observing. But had a chance to really teach today. However, half the class was having CIP, reducing the class size to seven students. That was really microteaching. I realise that Normal (Technical) students are really the best to teach, you feel appreciated after the lesson. Strange that the N(T) class that the team is handling is giving much less problems that the so-called higher ability class. Something which a lot of teacher friends attest, and something that I’m experiencing for myself first-hand. Well, there’s three more such sessions to look forward to. This LTE is certainly helping in terms of preparing me for practicum.

Practicum posting will be next Friday. I’m eagerly waiting for that day. It will determine where I will be going for the next 3 months. Exciting. It may even determine where I’ll be for the next few years. Going by what was presented by the MOESPU, I can indeed get posted as far as town. Which will be quite a pain, but well, if that is where I’m needed, so be it.

I’ve kept this journal on my computer for more than a year now. This will be my last entry into it. Will be changing to a hard-copy handwritten one after this. Feel better that way. It has really been interesting to read the past entries of this journal, especially those that were immediately after I started it. I have certainly changed since then. Now there is something to look forward for and something to keep me moving.

When wounds heal they leave a scar and scars never reopen. So I guess that when old wounds reopen, they never really healed in the first place. Read something yesterday that reopened old wounds; didn’t happen to me but somehow I could feel the hurt and pain. But as it is written, that if we persevere to the very end, we will attain the crown of life. And so life goes on, it goes on differently for some but it goes on anyway.

Sometimes when we run out of prayers, we just need to offer up prayers made in faith. When we do that, we will find that God will put the words we need to say into our mouth even when we don’t understand them.

Today was the second day of school and it was a good day. Next week’s enrichment class at Outram Secondary seems a lot less daunting now.

It is a new year. The year has been rather dull so far with the exception of today. Went to school for the first time in a month and have already been thrown 3 assignments due over the course of the next 3 weeks. Interesting module though, games and simulations.

Tomorrow is the beginning of the English module, and work has already been thrown at me. The next 6 weeks is going to be intense. And the 10 weeks immediately after that is going to be worse. But I am looking forward to it. Will be going to a school next week for teaching practice already; Outram secondary school, will be teaching a Secondary Two normal technical class. Somehow I feel a little bad as we are using the students like experimental subjects or lab rats.

The 10 weeks after that will really determine a lot; especially where I will be going after June. Practicum. Past trend has been that practicum posting is the final school posting. I am really eager to find out where exactly I will end up. It will be near home, at least it will be in the east, but how “east” I will only know after CNY. There are three places where I really don’t mind going, but I will leave that up to the Lord.

verses read: 1 Samuel 18-20

Home alone; parents have gone overseas. Amazingly, I have lost weight! Despite the Seoul Garden Dinner yesterday, and all the Christmas feasting, my weight has actually gone down.

Received a “good” Christmas present this year, it wasn’t something physical, but rather, it was “good” news. An answered prayer even, but then is it really something that I want answered favourably? Perhaps, perhaps not. After seeing some things yesterday, it is the season of my life to be alone. There is a big task that needs to be done, I wish I wasn’t the one to do it, but I am. But more importantly, need to sort some things out with myself first before moving on.

The new year beckons and a new milestone in life is fast approaching. I really wonder which school I will be posted to. For the first time in a long time, I’ve received advice from people beyond the CF or church circle. It was a good chat yesterday night; set many things in perspective. Go back to TK and it would be rewarding no doubt, but it would be tiring and not why I wanted to teach in the first place. Go to another school and it will be another set of problems. No choice is going to be ideal, just have to make it count. Read a blog that caught my eye about two months ago. And a large part of me wishes that I could go back to TMS, yet I doubt I would. It’s so heartbreaking to read something like that; yet it sounds so familiar.

The new year beckons and it will be an interesting one indeed. So Lord, send me where You need me and not where I want to go. For You know best and You’ve prepared that straight path for me already.

verses read: 1 Samuel 9-17

It’s Christmas, and what a different Christmas is has been from the previous years. For the first time in a long time I can really feel the Christmas joy, rather than the loneliness of Christmas. Frantically wrote some Christmas cards yesterday and even today, before going to church! Got a lot of chocolates and cards as well. Too many chocolates in fact.

The last ten days have been a rush. The camp was definitely the highlight. I think I’ve clocked a record for the most number of days stayed in church this December, a total of 7 nights; 2 for the NTUCF retreat, 1 for TOFU and 4 for the camp. The new sofa is really nice and comfortable, the new shower areas are also really good! My back didn’t act up as much as before. But I guess it is also from the fact that my back is a lot stronger now due to all the gym work.

What can I say about the camp? The difference can really be felt when you have a dedicated team to stay in the background and cover the whole event in prayer. The response is so much different. And I guess having reached the age when you are not as effective, then that is the more important thing to do. Been compiling the evaluation forms the past few days, nothing unexpected.

Got my results back from NIE, nothing much, I’m probably the lowest in class. But that’s not unexpected as well; not that it matters. What matters is practicum next year.

Been eating too much as usual. Managed to loose weight during the camp. But the last few days have practically erased all that. Back to the gym for me this week. But how do you lose weight when you’ve got another party and an appreciation dinner at Seoul Garden coming up?

verses read: 1 Samuel 8

It’s amazing how fast December always seems to fly past; before you know it half of it is already gone and there is more to come. And what has happened since the last entry? Had the final assessment for the Semester, which went pretty okay. Interestingly enough all the English teachers drew scenarios which were the toughest; that was a real test.

It’s only mid-December and I’ve already camped in church for 3 nights, and another 4 next week. The NTUCF retreat was just a break from everything, could lay back and take a little time off. But other than that it has been the usual December crunch. At least there is no carolling this year, that would be very tough.

AnnTiC has been happening the last few days, I really wonder how they are doing up north. I wonder if it would have been better for me to be there rather than here. But I guess the memories of last year’s AnnTiC would only re-surface and make things worse.

Camp is next week, followed by a long Christmas weekend. True rest starts then. Re-assignment takes place next year. And a big burden will be lifted from me, one that I’ve carried for too long now.
