At the retreat, Pastor Aaron challenged us to read the Bible regularly. He gave us a minimum amount; one verse per week. May seem like very little, but to use an analogy he used during the "tithes and offerings" teaching, if we don't learn how to give 10% of whatever little we have now, we will find it difficult to give 10% later on in life. If we don't learn to read just one verse per week now, it will be really difficult to have a more consistent QT when we want to start.
So, for the sake of accountability, I will blog about whatever I read according to the commitment I have promised. And of course over time, rather from being a commitment (hence possibly looked as obligation), my prayer is that this becomes a discipline and second nature. The blog posts on this subject will follow the format above, which is the date in "SAF format".
Anyway, i've committed myself to read at least one verse per day or simply do my QT material. Not that simple actually. Anyway I thought I start simply by with the following verses:
And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there He prayed - Mark 1:35
Earlier this year, when we decided to hold prayer meetings at an insane time, 7.30am every Sunday morning, I found a lot of strength to attend these meetings by drawing upon the example of the Lord Jesus Himself.
If you read this verse in it's context, you will know that it is probably very easy to just look over this verse as it is embedded in some other kind of text. But I think it's important to question ourselves why these "small verses" are there in the first place.
I think this verse shows that Jesus Himself did His "QT". And my prayer as I begin this challenge that Pastor laid down for us, is that I may find inspiration to read the Bible, at least one verse, everyday and meditate upon it.
